This is a nice story to share at the holidays that in the end reinforces friendship and love over presents and trappings. The illustrations are filled with lots of action and expression. The package is filled with rainbows and bluebirds and butterflies and all ends well. She realizes that Sparkle did not mean to hurt her feelings and as she puts the tree upright she finds a small package. Lucy yells “Go away! You have RUINED Christmas! You are not my best friend anymore!” Poor Sparkle begins to cry as Lucy apologizes for her mean words. Sparkle makes things worse by toppling the tree and eating the Christmas stockings. Christmas day arrives and there is a huge pile of presents under the tree, but Lucy has a meltdown when she realizes there are no gifts to her from Sparkle. The two go shopping and Lucy says: “Here’s how it works: I will get presents for you and you will get presents for me.” Unfortunately, Sparkle has more fun chasing birds outside instead of shopping in a toy store. In this holiday adventure, Lucy is excited to tell Sparkle about Christmas, especially the presents. What did you like about the book?
